Ashigawa ~ A small village near Mt.Fuji ~ The element "Air" - Report

The Five Elements "Air" Workshop:

   August 8th, Sat 13:00 ~ 9th Sun 12:00

"Knowing the wind of indigo dyeing"

This time, we had indigo dye experience in Fujiwara-house, old folk house.

Kaori and Yasu went to mow the indigo leaves in morning.
Impressive it was to see the fresh indigo leaves, full of buckets, to change colors in each step.

Weather was perfect for indigo dyeing, sunny and breezy.

Next workshop will be in October. (details from here)

Photos from the workshop:

↑ At entrance hall in Green Lodge we stayed.
Unicorn beetle Yasu was taking care of.

↑ Rice we planted in May already has ears…

↑ Fresh indigo leaves to make dye from

↑ Tie cloths with elastics to make patterns...

↑ Children playing around in their own world

↑ Put the fresh indigo leaves in mixer...

↑ then strain the dye

Steep cloths in dye, then we let them blow in wind... repeatedly.

Gradually, dye would go deeper.

Depending on the materials, dye comes out so different.
Real indigo dye needs to be waited for months !

Dinner veggies are grown and harvested in this village☆

Bon appétit!

↑ Extra lesson: spoons and forks twisted and bent
with fire and earth energy...lol

↓ On next day, back in Fujiwara-house, grilling corns.
Corns were from the field next door!
